Troubleshooting Tips
Several factors contribute to successful CD/DVD recording. Here are some troubleshooting tips to help reduce issues and errors during recording:
1. Disable Auto Insert Notification in CD-RW settings: Go to Settings/Control Panel/System/Device Manager/CD-ROM. Double click on your CD-RW drive, and click on the Settings tab. Under Options, uncheck Auto Insert Notification. The only option that needs to be checked is Disconnect. You must do the same for any other CD-ROM on the system if it's used during recording You will need to reboot for the change to take effect.
2. Remove any "ghost" drives in Safe Mode (previous devices still recognized by the computer): To access the Start Up menu and choose the Safe Mode option, you can either- Hit F8 right away while cold booting OR Go to Start/Run/Msconfig/Advanced, and check Enable Start Up Menu, OK, and reboot. When you get the Start Up Menu at boot up, choose: 3. Safe Mode. When in Safe Mode, go to Device Manager(Settings/Control Panel/System): Click on "+" in front of CD-ROM. If there are more CD-ROMS listed there than what is actually on your computer, highlight and remove all CD-ROMS listed, including what is actually connected. If the only CD-ROMS listed are the ones that are actually connected, with no repetitions, do nothing. Reboot and go into Normal Mode. You will need to disable the Start Up Menu if you enabled it in Start/Run. Go back to msconfig and uncheck it.
3. Rename scsi1hlp.vxd file: This is a virtual device driver that sometimes causes recording difficulties. Go to Start/Find/Files or Folders. For "Named:" type in "scsi1hlp.vxd". For "Look in:" choose "C: drive," and click Find Now. Once found, rename the file as: "scsi1hlp.old". If not found, go into Windows Explorer, and follow the path C:/Windows/System/Iosubsys. If file is not here, go to the upper left hand corner, click on View, then Folder Options, and choose the View tab. Under Hidden Files, place the bullet to the left of Show All Files. Click Apply and OK. Try to locate the file again, and rename it.
4. When recording, make sure you have all unnecessary background programs disabled: Disable any memory resident programs: Anti-Virus, Screen Savers, Task Schedulers, etc. Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del to list all running background programs. You may End Task on all background programs except: Explorer and Systray.
5. Recording from CD-ROM to CD-RW can be problematic. To optimize quality and your chances for success, it is best to use the CD-RW drive as the source drive, make a disk image to the hard drive and then record from hard drive back to the CD-RW.
6. Install all latest upgrades for your BIOS and Motherboard. Please contact your system manufacturer for all the latest upgrades. If you built your own PC, check for upgrades for all major components: mother board, chip set, and graphic card. You can usually find the latest driver on the web site of the components manufacturers.
