Discribe doesn't see my Sony Spressa USB CD-RW drive?
The drive is not connected or turned on. Make sure the drive is connected snugly via the USB port and powered up. 2. The USB SIM is not installed properly. Check for the following two files (not written by CharisMac) in your Extensions folder:
Shuttle USB-ATAPI SIM 1.0
Shuttle USB-ATAPI
These two components along with Apple's USB Manager make the whole solution work. They make the CD-R drive look as if it resides on a SCSI bus, not a USB bus, even though you are hooking the drive up through USB. 3. Barring the first two, if your iMac came with system 8.1 (like the Rev 1 and some of the Rev 2 iMacs) then you will have to upgrade to system 8.5 (the following updaters do not run under OS 8.1). Then, after installing system 8.5 you will need to download and install the iMac Firmware updater and the iMac Updater 1.1.
MAC systems 8.6 already have the most current available USB Manager, which is version 1.2. Machines running system 8.6 should not need any software updates.
If you have a Mac that has 8.6 and you are still unable to see the Sony Spressa USB CD-R drive, then you may have a problem with the USB cabling or the drive itself.
Helpful Hint: You can double check to see what version of USB Manager your Mac is running by using the Apple System Profiler software. This software should be located under your Apple pull-down menu. Do this:
1. Launch Apple System Profiler 2. Click on the Devices and Volumes Tab 3. Near the top you will see a listing that says USB, under that you will find a version number. It needs to read version 1.1 or newer.
If all software components are installed correctly, try cycling the power for the drive for 10 seconds. Sometimes resetting the hardware will help.
