Why do I sometimes have difficulty recording disc to disc?
In the past CD-ROM drives read at 1X or 2X, and CD recorders recorded and read a 1X and 2X. This combination was perfect for Disc to Disc recording. Today in the market there are CD-ROM readers that read up to 50X+ and there are CD-R & CD-RW drives that record CD-R at 12X+ and CD-RW at 8X+. These drives read CD's at 32X+.
When you try to record CD-RW Disc to Disc at 8X+ and your source drive is extracting at 16X+ this creates a performance difference. This is what you are experiencing when you get the message Buffer Under Run or Over Run during Disc to Disc recording.
Try this:
If you are recording Disc to Disc and are experiencing errors or performance issues than most likely you will have to record to your hard drive than to the CD burner. Do this first to insure that your new hardware is working correctly. After you are sure that the device is working properly than try recording Disc to Disc. If you are still having difficulty recording Disc to Disc. Try recording at slower speeds. Try changing the configuration of your CD-ROM's. Check to see if you are using a Bus Mastering Hard Drive Controller in Device Manager of Windows. If Bus Mastering is not listed, consult your Motherboard manufacture for a possible update. Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your CD-ROM reader. Check the Manufacture of your CD-ROM drive for any updates they offer. If you have tried all of these suggestions and still cannot perform a disc to disc operation, your only other alternative is to record to the hard drive and back to your burner.
