Error: ASPI Manager can't be initialized

Answer:

Title
ASPI Manager can't be initialized error

Description
Known Issues - MyDVD 3.1 Release Notes

Symptom
ASPI Manager can't be initialized error

Solution
You may get this error if you install Windows Media Player 7.x after installing MyDVD. Some Media Player installations appear to erase part of the MyDVD installation. If this happens, re-install MyDVD.

Description: ASPI or Advanced SCSI Programming Interface is a software layer which allows communication between all kinds of software (applications, DLLs, or drivers) and your peripheral devices. As the name already tells you, ASPI was meant for SCSI. Later the programming interface was adopted for other non-SCSI bus types, such as FC, parallel port and ATAPI (IDE)

Many applications require the ASPI layer for communication with your CD-ROM and/or CD-writer. Windows 95 and 98 come with an totally outdated ASPI layer. Windows NT and 2000 come without ASPI layer. In both cases it's strongly recommended to update to a recent ASPI layer. XP may be using ASPI 4.7 and we suggest you "force aspi" to revert to 4.6. The website below will direct you how to do this.

Here are a couple more steps you can try to resolve your issue:

  • Your burner is set to "master" and not "slave".
  • Try reverting to your system aspi driver. To revert to your system default aspi drivers, take the "wnaspi32.dll" out of the MyDVD folder (located in the same directory as the MyDVD.exe) and reboot your computer.
