How do I upgrade firmware with Sony Tape Tool for Mac OS X?

Answer:

Download the Sony Tape Tool for Mac OS X to a directory of your choice.

Change to that directory and extract ( tar -zxvf ).

Use the sprobe application to determine the dev#.

Download the firmware file from the Internet to same directory as Sony Tape Tool for Mac OS X.

Now you are ready to upgrade the firmware.

Usage: sonytape -f

Example:

./sonytape dev1 -f sdx5010c.x50
Sonytape ver. 1.0 for Mac OS X, Sony Electronics, Inc. 2003
Vendor Id = SONY
Product Id = SDX-500C
Revision Level = 010c
Firmware file size = 736628 bytes
Upgrading tape drive firmware.
