Why do I get Bad Block and Media Errors? What can I do?
Answer:
Use an AIT Cleaning Cartridge. Occasional use of a cleaning cartridge will remove environment dust that collects on the head area of the tape drum. AIT AME tape does not create contamination from tape, unlike the way MP tape media does. However, heads can be contaminated by environmental dust. Thus it is recommended occasional head cleaning for all AIT tape drives (about every 100 hours of use). As a last resort try retensioning the tape. Use this procedure whenever encountering any type of problem with your tapes when cleaning the drive will not fix.
