When I try to use the ISO Hybrid format in Discribe software, why do I get an error that files are open and I cannot use the drive?
When using the ISO Hybrid feature, you will only be allowed to use a separate Mac HFS partition as the source. You cannot record from the hard drive you are booting from. You will need to partition your hard drive, and record from the partition the system files are not loading on.
During the time of booting my Mac will hang if the Sony i-Link CRX120E/X is connected to it.
and download the Firewire 2.3.3.smi patch. To use FireWire 2.3.3, you need a Macintosh computer with built-in FireWire ports, or at least one FireWire PCI card or CardBus card installed. Note: On a Blue and White Power Macintosh G3, you should first install Mac OS 9 or the G3 Firmware Update 1.0.2 or 1.1
How do I make a complete backup of my Mac using Retrospect Express?
Remember this is NOT an emergency recovery program.
There are several things for you to remember before we start.
A. You cannot use a CD-R/RW disk that has been used or erased by a PC. You must first completely erase the CD-R/RW disk on the Mac before continuing.
B. This software is capable of doing a disaster recovery from a complete backup.
C. Read the following files in the Retrospect folder on the hard drive.
1. Read Me - Retrospect Express.html
2. Retrospect Express Quick Start
3. Retrospect Express Users Guide
How to create the backup
1. Double-click on your hard drive and find your 'Retrospect Express Folder' and double-click on it. That will bring up the following window.
2. Double-click on the 'Retrospect Express' icon. This will open the program and the window below will appear.
This is your main 'Retrospect Express Directory' where your selection will start.
3. Click on the 'Backup' button.
The above window, where we select the source or what we want to backup, will come up.
4. Select your hard drive and click 'OK'.
The window featured below asks us where are we going to store the backup, whether we want the backup to have a password or encrypted and allows us to rename our 'Backup Set A'. It is suggested that the first time through we use the default settings.
5. Click on the 'New' button.
6. The above window is next and it wants to know where to save the 'Backup Set A'. Click the 'Save' button.
Now that the program knows what we are backing up and where we are sending it. The program now wants us to actually create the 'Backup Set A' as shown above.
7. Click on the 'OK' button.
The program has all of the information needed to do the backup. In the next window it wants you to verify what you have told it. Check the info and make sure it is correct.
8. If the info is correct then click on the 'Backup' button.
Of course, they have to check to see if you're serious with the following window.
9. Click 'OK' if you're 'Really' sure.
The program will run through some automatic scanning of the drive and check the files to be backed up.
The computer will now prompt you for a blank disk. This must be a fresh blank, either fully erased or new, it cannot have been erased on a PC. When the disk is inserted the 'Proceed' button will highlight.
10. Click on the 'Proceed' button.
If more than one disk is needed the above window will appear again asking for another disk it will call '2-Backup Set A', insert the blank CD-R/RW disk in the drive and label the one removed.
11. Click on the 'Proceed' button again.
This will continue until the backup is complete.
Once the backup is complete the program will ask for the first disk again. After the disk has been inserted and the tray closed the program will automatically start the compare. This will ask for each disk in turn to verify that they are the same as the hard drive.
When the compare is complete it will either give you a list of errors or tell you that it was successful.
