What cleaning cartridge is required for the Sony AIT-4 tape drive?

Answer:

The Sony AIT-4 tape drive may only be cleaned with Sony cleaning cartridge part number SDX4-CL. Sony AIT-4 tape drive models include the SDX-900V, AITi520/S and AITe520/S.

How do I access the Menu options from the LCD of my LIB-81 or LIB-162?

Answer:

To access the Menu, please press the Menu button on the front console of the library for two seconds. The Menu should then appear on the LCD of the library and you can choose the appropriate option from there. For additional information on using the LCD Menu, please refer to the Operating Instructions and/or Production Description Manual for your library.

How do I eject a tape left in the tape drive of a LIB-81 or LIB-162 after a tape backup/restore operation fails?

Answer:

When a tape backup/restore operation fails a tape cartridge may be left in the tape drive of a library.

If the operation should fail or you cannot eject the cartridge through the software then follow the steps below:

  1. Exit out of and then stop all services for any application software used for data backup and recovery.
  2. Power the library off, wait a minimum of five (5) seconds and then power the library back on.
  3. After the library initializes press the menu button on the front control panel for 2 seconds to bring up the main menu.
  4. Select EJECT/INSERT TAPE and then EJECT FROM DRIVE.
  5. If the library is a:
    1. LIB-81, press ENTER once and then press ENTER again to activate the operation.
    2. LIB-162, press ENTER once, select the drive to eject from and press ENTER twice.
  6. Allow a few minutes for the operation to complete and then press CANCEL once returning to the main menu.
  7. Select MOVE TAPE with tape drive as the source and an empty slot as the destination.
  8. Allow the move operation to complete. Then use the CANCEL button to exit all way out of the menu to the status display.
  9. Verify that the tape cartridge has been removed from the tape drive.
  10. Restart all services for the application software used for data backup and recovery.
