If a Symantec Backup Exec hangs at the start of a catalog job, what can I try to correct the issue?

Answer:

When Symantec Backup Exec hangs at the start of a catalog job you should try unchecking the “Use storage media-based catalogs” check box under Tools | Options | Catalog. When this option is not selected during a catalog operation, all files on the tape must be read file-by-file to create a new catalog.

Is there a recommended cleaning interval for AIT Tape Drives?

Answer:

Occasional use of an AIT Cleaning Cartridge will remove environment dust that collects on the head area of the tape drum. AIT AME tape does not create contamination from tape, unlike the way MP tape media does. However, heads can be contaminated by environmental dust. Thus, occasional head cleaning is recommended for all AIT tape drives (about once every 100 hours of use).

What are the benefits of SAIT-1 over existing competitive solutions?

Answer:

SAIT-1 drives and media provide significantly more capacity than is possible through linear recording technologies. This is the result of much higher areal recording densities achievable with helical-scan technology. By utilizing the media length and cartridge size of half-inch linear products, SAIT-1 is able to store over twice the native capacity in the same space.
