I am getting a choppy/distorted video on DVD playback using Nero Showtime for Windows. How can I resolve this?

Answer:
  1. Make sure you have DMA turned on.
    • Right click my computer
    • Choose Properties
    • Choose Hardware
    • Choose Device Manager
    • Double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
    • Double click the Secondary IDE Controller
    • Choose Advanced Settings
    • Change both Device 0 and Device 1 to DMA if Available.

**NOTE** If DMA is not available please do the following:

    • Right click on the Secondary IDE Controller
    • Choose Uninstall
    • Reboot your system to make the changes effective and you should now have the choice of DMA available on the IDE controller. Please follow the above instructions to make the DMA changes.

  2. Disable the "Enable Digital CD Audio" for the DVD drive.
    • Right click my computer
    • Choose Properties
    • Choose Hardware
    • Choose Device Manager
    • Double click on DVD/CD-ROM drive
    • Double click on the Sony drive
    • Choose Properties and take the check off Enable Digital CD Audio for the CD-ROM Device
  3. Make sure you have the latest upgrades for your sound and video card. Please contact the manufacture of these cards for the updates.
  4. Disable your Anti-Virus programs. Some Anti-Virus programs will start up when you try to play a DVD movie and cause distortion.
  5. Install the Sony drive as a Secondary master by itself. Do not install the drive with another DVD-ROM/CD-RW/CD-ROM drive.
  6. Enable the Hardware Acceleration within the Nero Showtime software.
    • Click on the Preferences button (the hammer) on the menu bar.

This reduces the main load on the processor and may lead to improved video performance. Please note this is only possible to switch the hardware acceleration on and off when there is no playback.

When installing the Power DVD software bundled with the Sony drive on myVaio computer, it causes Vaio "TV Output" and other such functions to become unavailable. How can I resolve this?

Answer:

If you are using a Vaio computer with a preinstalled version of Power DVD, installing the Power DVD version supplied with the drive may cause these issues. We recommend that such users use their preinstalled version of Power DVD instead of the one supplied with this drive.
